The San Diego Zoo…

Category : Uncategorized

Before Paul left, he and I spent a day at the zoo. At the end of the day I concluded that I just can’t support the encagement of animals anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, there are beautiful parts of the zoo:

The landscape:

The sex:

Giant Turtles Having Sex

It was all overshadowed by the higher mammals, who were clearly depressed:

Monkey Dejection

I don’t think we should have captured these animals. Why do we lose our sense of empathy for animals who are not as intelligent as we are? We wouldn’t want this to happen to us when machine intelligence surpasses human intelligence, yet we have no problem doing it to animals. Apparently, the golden rule only applies to humans.

I think I would be depressed, too, if I were in a cage with other creatures staring at me.
