Double Header [May & June 2015]

Category : Uncategorized

It’s been about two months since I’ve updated this blog. The funny thing is, I haven’t really been that busy, I just haven’t wanted to sit down at my laptop and work.

It seems like the more time I spend outside in nature, the more time I feel comfortable spending out there. A couple years ago, I used to be a bit of a weekend warrior when it comes to nature. I would drive to dodge park or stoney creek in Michigan and run for a couple hours, then hop back in my car and drive back home. That would be enough of a nature fix that I could go back to sitting in-front of my computer for days at a time.

Things are different now. In between climbs, I enjoy just sitting on the ground and relaxing or reading a book. I don’t get antsy if I have an uneventful day just walking through the woods, and I crave the stimulation of the internet much less than before.

Anyway my expenses on this trip seem to be averaging out to about $1200 per month. This is $200 more than I expected, but nothing to get worked up or to make drastic changes over.

May
Expenses: $1122.36
Dividend Income: $316.50
Percentage of expenses paid by dividend income: 28.2%

June
Expenses: $1256.11
Dividend Income: $198.04
Percentage of expenses paid by dividend income: 15.8%

I’m not retired, not very close actually. My dividends tend to pay somewhere around 15-30% of my expenses depending on the month. Since I haven’t been adding fresh capital, I’ve largely stalled out (except for reinvesting dividends which is insignificant compared to what I could save and invest when I had a full-time job)

At some point in the next year, I’d like to start making real money again so I can restart that upward trend. Maybe I’ll only work for a year, but I’ll get to push that range from 15-30% of my expenses to 25-40% of my expenses.
